6. To talk to someone in the bookshop, you should call: 020 7412 7735.

7. To find out about the British Library's “Adopt a Book” scheme, you should call: 020 7412 7034. 8. For information about maps, you should call:020 741 27702.

9. For enquiries about books to do with science and technology, you should call 020 7412 7288 or 020 7412 7494.

10.To ask about newspapers, you should call: 020 7412 7353.

11.To find out about the library's sound archive, you should call: 020 7412 7676. 12.To contact the press and public relations office, you should call: 020 7412 7110.

13.To ask about services for teachers and young people, you should call: 020 7412 7797.

14.If you are calling from outside the UK, you should add 44 before each of these numbers and take away the first zero. For example, to contact the main switchboard from outside the UK you would have to call: 44 870 444 1500.

15.The British Library can also be found in Yorkshire. The address there is: The British Library, Boston Spa, Wetherby, West Yorkshire, LS23 7BQ.

16.The British Library is a copyright library, which means that it automatically receives a copy of every book that is published in the UK.

17.How many books do you own? Thirty? Fifty? One hundred? You may be surprised to learn that the British Library's collection contains over 150 million different items! 18.More than 16,000 people use the British Library per day!

19.Some of the books in the British Library's collection are more than 2,300 years old. I wonder whether the books and magazines that we buy and read today will still be around in the year 4306! What do you think?
