Jobs, Marriage and Immigration, Jobs, Marriage and Immigration - Part 2

Brenda: He's the same age. He's turning 25 this year. Ester: It's really unfair if you want a decision from him as well because he's really not settled. Brenda: Exactly. He's I think, even if he wanted to, I don't know if he could. Ester: But it means that if you could give that effort to build up his financial statements. I mean, are you seeing it happening?

Brenda: In like, the economy also, right.

Ester: Money, water and drinks? I mean... Brenda: Yeah, he goes out, but I don't. It's not, umm. It's not like he spends a whole bunch of money, like, when we went out it was always, you know. He always had his exact amount of money. He wouldn't spend past that. Julie: Hmmm... Brenda: Ummm... Roy: Is he on any "unemployment" at the moment. Brenda: No, no no, he works, but he works part time. And umm... Roy: Oh, so he's got a job! Brenda: He's got a job. It's just, it doesn't pay much, and, right now the economy in the U.S., as it is, it's not... you can't just be changing jobs, or whatever. He was doing the... 2 "part-time"s. You know, we hardly ever saw each other when he was doing that. We'd see each other just for a couple of hours during the week. Umm... so yeah, it's, he was doing that, but it just got too much, so now, he's doing just that one job... and he was going to take another job that paid a little more, umm, and it was just during the weekends and stuff, but, uuh, this other job, as the catering that he was doing was more, it's called Metropolitan Market. They offered him the same rate so he decided to stay. And they said they were going to give him more hours, which they have, they kinda have, so... Ester: Yeah Brenda: But, still, it's not enough cos, he's in debut with his car. Umm, he's paying his parents back for his car, (paying) his mum back for his car. Umm, rent and all that. He just finished paying off his phone bill. So he's got that back. But yeah.

Ester: He can't even "sponsor" you over. He can't even afford to sponsor you over, so, no matter what you can't get, a "green card" so it leaves out... Brenda: He couldn't. He can't, he couldn't afford to take me out for dinner. Ester: Yeah... Brenda: Unless he had to... Julie: Sacrifice? Brenda: Sacrifice! And use a coupon!

Ester: Yeah, so it's really hard. Brenda: It's really hard. Ester: You can't. He can't - he's not financially stable. Brenda: Yeah... Ester: And Brenda, you just need to think whether you want to wait for him, or not. It's not going to be so soon. Brenda: Yeah.

Ester: Yeah... I know where he's coming from now, yeah, cos... Julie: Yeah... Ester: He really can't support himself. So, it's like, even if he agrees to marry you, or whatever, right, you're just pushing him and it can't... it can't move so fast. Julie: It's too... I think it's, yeah, too stressful! Ester: He can't even sponsor you over. Julie: I think finance is, like, the greatest, like, barrier! It's, it's... you know, he's 24, he's turning 25, he's broke and he can't deal with it, right? I know a 36 year old who was broke and can't deal with it! So, let alone, you know, it's not the age thing and then... It's just too hard for him, and maybe he's that type of guy who, you know, he wants to, you know, pay for, you know, pay for your dinners, go if, you go out and do yourself up and stuff like that, but... I think he's just a little bit, umm, insecure?
