Speaking with natives– language learning

Something that I have always wanted to try out was to see whether I could learn a language purely through speaking with natives, I believe that grammar is quite important and listening and reading are the most helpful tools when it comes to learning a language. However I thought that I would try it out, I have recently been browsing language chat websites and made a few Chinese friends who have agreed to chat to me on Skype, I intend to converse with them on a weekly basis and purely through asking them questions and speaking with them I want to see how long it takes before I am comfortable having conversations with them, I have major doubts about how effective this approach will be, but I thought I would give it a go. For quite a few months the conversations will mainly be in English and will involve me asking questions.

Basically upon answering the call we will begin to communicate in Chinese until I can't go any further, at this point I will begin to ask questions about common phrases and purely through repeating dialogues with each other I will slowly grasp some conversational dialogue skills, every week the length of the conversation in Chinese at the start of the call will lengthen as my Chinese improves.
