tdes, “Dead” Girl On Google Street View

Hi, I'm Sarah, welcome to The Daily English Show. Today's song is Layla. Layla was released in 1970 by a band which Eric Clapton was in at the time called Derek and the Dominos.

It's pretty famous song and I think the story behind it is interesting. Eric Clapton was friends with George Harrison from the Beatles and Eric Clapton fell in love with George Harrison's wife, her name was Pattie Boyd. And he wrote this song about his love for her.

And the title is from a story about a princess who was “married off by her father to someone other than the one who was desperately in love with her”.

So this song is about Eric Clapton's unrequited love for Pattie Boyd. Unrequited love is when you love someone but they don't love you back. And in the song he begs for her love basically.

He says: Please don't say we'll never find a way Or tell me all my love's in vain In vain is an idiom which means without success . For example: He tried in vain to persuade her to go with him .

STICK NEWS Kia ora in Stick News today some people in England called the police after they found a girl on Google Street View lying face down on the pavement. A nine-year-old was playing in the street and decided to play dead as a prank on her friend.

When she was lying face down on the pavement, the Google car drove past and now she's on Google Street view. Apparently some people thought it was a dead body and called the police.

And that was Stick News for Friday the 13th of August.

Kia ora.

Word of the Day Today's word is consolation . comfort received by someone after a loss or disappointmen t This is from the song: Tried to give you consolation Your old man let you down Like a fool, I fell in love with you You turned my whole world upside down Old man means father . And to let someone down means: to fail to help or support sb as they had hoped or expected .

So I guess this is referring to the story of Layla - how the princess's father made her marry the wrong guy. friday joke Can you tell me how long it'll take to fly from London to Paris? Just a minute.

Thank you.

conversations with sarah #814 So they never got together? Step 1: Repeat Derek's lines. Step 2: Read Derek's lines and talk to Sarah. Derek Did Pattie ever find out the song was about her?

Sarah Yeah.

Eric told her.

Derek When she was still married?

Sarah Yeah.

Derek What happened?

Sarah Apparently it caused some problems. But she stayed married.

Derek So they never got together?

Sarah No, they did get together actually. Pattie got divorced from George Harrison several years later and then got married to Eric Clapton.

Derek Really?

Sarah Yeah.

And apparently George Harrison came to the wedding.
