Intricacies of Life, Food-Glorious Food-Wonderful Food

Ok. So I just finished talking about a bunch a skinny girls that walk up and down a runway for a living. That just made me think about all the Bahamian food that they can't eat. I love my Bahamian food-just as carbohydrate and fat-loaded as it is. I was telling my friend the other day that I want peas and rice, cole slaw, macaroni and cheese, cracked conch, grouper, strawberry daiquiri, and conch fritters. I can get all of that at my favorite restaurant--Twin Brothers. Some other things that we eat that I can't find in this country are peas soup and dumplings, curry chicken and rice, johnny bread, stew fish, conch chowder, crab and rice, guava duff, corned beef, and grits. I've been making a substitute version of split peas soup that I eat with pasta because my dumplings never come out right. I don't think salt beef exists in this country, so I have to use beef bouillon to get it the right flavor. When I eat that, it's the biggest tease because it feels like my foot just makes it to the threshold of the door, but I can't pass through. It's been two years since I've had any authentic Bahamian food-I mean other that what I cook for myself; I mean restaurant food. I miss home. :(
