There are several options to help you get around on your own – rental cars, motor scooters and bicycles.
Rental Cars Renting a car is a convenient way for you to explore more of the island on your own time. Rental cars, equipped for left-hand driving, are available at the airport and visitors may use their home driver's license for up to three months. You may also apply for an international driver's license if you'll be staying with us longer. Motor Scooters Motor scooters are available for rent at several locations in Freeport/Lucaya. Renting a motor scooter gives you and a passenger the freedom to buzz around town and the countryside looking for that perfect, quiet spot to watch the sunset. Bicycles Some hotels have bicycles for rent, generally for the use of their guests. In the Lucaya area, there is an official cycling path on Midshipman Road, but please be careful. Regardless of which vehicle you choose to explore the island with, please remember that we drive on the left-hand side of the street. Bus Public buses, or jitneys as we like to call them, operate between both Port Lucaya Marketplace and the downtown area, and from downtown to the outlying areas of West End and East End. Fares charged are based on your destination and exact change is required.
Ferry Government Ferry A free government-owned ferry travels daily between Sweeting's Cay and McLean's Town. Pinder's Ferry Service Provides ferry service between Crown Haven, The Abacos, and McLean's Town, Grand Bahama Island daily. Private Boat Visiting boaters must clear Customs and Immigration at the nearest designated Port of Entry. As you enter port, fly the yellow quarantine flag and notify Customs of your arrival. No one other than the captain is permitted to leave the boat until your vessel has been cleared.
