Moving to New Zealand, Part 2 - Preparing for Departure

Preparing for Departure It has been an interesting past few days to say the least. Jayme and I have rid ourselves of absolutely everything we own, save for a couple of suitcases a piece. Cars, appliances, & everything in between has now been sold, given away, or simply trashed. The experience of getting rid of everything has a way of making one look back and revamp their priority list. So many things that I packed away, planning to keep forever, are now gone…and I don't miss them at all! It's quite a liberating experience really. One that I wish everyone could experience. In the States, I believe Americans tend to horde massive amounts of “stuff” — and Jayme and I are certainly not separate from this habit. The difference is that we are aware of this fault, and we intend on ceasing it once and for all. Not only has this been a liberating experience, but also one that will make it easy for us to start over in New Zealand. We now will have the ultimate “clean slate.” We own nothing, therefore we cannot horde anything. What an opportunity for change!

Jayme and I fly out of the U.S. this Tuesday. We plan on staying at least three nights in a hostel, taking this time to find accommodation that we can afford. Things have looked somewhat hopeful in Wellington — but being a very frugal (or as my wife calls ‘cheap') man, I am still very anxious of the rental prices. Every time we have emailed a potential landlord they have emailed us back, which has been very nice. I'm confident that we'll be able to find something. Being students, we are looking for a furnished/semi-furnished 1 bedroom, in a quiet location close to Victoria. My next post will be coming direct from Wellington, New Zealand!! I can't believe that a dream we've held for so many years will come true in the next few days!
