Julie: Hello, Dr. Laura. My son has put me in a situation when I don't know how to handle it, how to act, what to do. He recently got married and his wife is living there, he joined the service - Dr. Laura: Okay, I didn't understand what you said. You said your son recently got married.
Julie: He got married, and he's in the Navy, and they're taking him on a tour seven months on the ship, and he went AWOL. This is quite a few miles away, but he's come home, and I just got a phone call that he's in town, and he's AWOL. I talked to him, and I said, "You need to get back as soon just as soon as you whatever," so he's quit calling me. He'll be in touch, of course this is a lifelong thing, and I don't know how to treat him, act, what to do. Dr. Laura: I'm sorry; I don't know what you mean. He's not in contact with you anymore, so what is it you have to do? Julie: Well, he will be. Dr. Laura: If he's in your house, you ought to call the Navy MPs and have them come pick him up. Julie: Okay, let's say he's not here, but if they - Dr. Laura: If you know where he is, call the Navy and let them come pick him up. Julie: I don't know. They're just around. Dr. Laura: Okay, when you know, let them know. That's your responsibility as a citizen. Julie: My ultimatum to him would be - this is what I told him - he needed to just get himself back, but I feel he's not going to, so - Dr. Laura: Then you call the authorities when you know where he is.
