What's New at the Linguist, April 2005

I would like to thank all of you who took the time to complete the survey we sent out last week. Your feedback helps us direct our efforts as we continue to make The Linguist better. The winner of the new MP3 player will be contacted today. I'm sure it will get plenty of use listening to Linguist content over the coming months! I thought I would pass along some of the highlights from the survey. There were actually two parts to the survey. One part was sent to Active Members and one part was sent to all other Newsletter Subscribers. To begin with our Active Members, it was interesting to note that the largest source of referrals to our website was the Linguist Book at 40% followed by Google at 14% and Friends at 11%. We are especially grateful to all of you who have recommended your friends and take this as a strong endorsement of our system by our members. (I also want to once again mention our Recommend a Friend program which allows members to earn free membership by recommending their friends.) As a further endorsement, over 97% of our active members found studying with The Linguist enjoyable. Compared to previous learning methods they had used, 77% found studying with us more enjoyable and 66% found it more effective. It was also very interesting that 49% of you felt that the writing correction system would be very attractive to new members. We agree. It is an extremely effective way to improve not only your writing but your English in general.

The number one source of referrals for Newsletter Subscribers was Google, with the Linguist Book a close second. It was interesting to note that over 30% of you have studied English for over 12 years. It's time for you to stop using methods that don't work and commit to achieving a breakthrough with The Linguist. Our results (and our satisfied members) speak for themselves! There were a number of other interesting tidbits. For instance, 80 to 95% of you would join if it were free. This is not surprising given the nature of the web, but difficult for us unless we can find tutors who work for free!

Finally I would just like to say thank you again to everyone who responded and I ask everyone to please continue to respond with any suggestions you might have.
