Your Language Adventure, Part 7

Part 7

There are many myths about pronunciation. Some claim that good pronunciation depends on an ear for music or other natural talents. I believe that pronunciation is a skill that is quite dependent on attitude. I know monolingual people who mastered the pronunciation of very different languages. I know multilingual people who have strong accents in every language. You need to train your ability to notice the pronunciation of English and you need the willingness to be adventurous when imitating this pronunciation. The more relaxed you are, and the more you enjoy communicating with people in the new language, the sooner your pronunciation will improve. But you also have to work at it and practice.

You will have lots of opportunity to speak and write on The Linguist system in order to make sure you know how to correctly use the new words and phrases that you are learning. If you make mistakes, The Linguist system will give you new links to the content you are studying so that your ability to express yourself can improve.

When you use LingQ, you will sense a growing confidence in your English abilities. In survey after survey, our learners at LingQ report that our system is not only more enjoyable but more efficient than any other system they have used. They also report greater confidence in all situations, better comprehension and better ability to speak and write.

But how do you know what you have learned? At LingQ we know it is important to measure your progress. That is why the system constantly generates statistics and graphs showing your achievements and activity. In this way you and your tutor will be able to follow your progress.

Remember that at LingQ you are not alone. You have a personal tutor with whom you communicate by email and internet voice chat. Your tutor corrects your writing. Your tutor follows your progress. Your tutor sends you regular reports pointing out your strengths and weaknesses.

C: Achieving full fluency

To reach your full potential you will need to master the accurate use of vocabulary. This will require a long period of listening and reading and systematic linking.

Your first task in your English adventure was to get used to the most common 2000 words of English which account for more than 80% of most content. Using LingQ you will improve quickly, with the help of your online tutor. But now you have to continue to the final goal, full fluency. To be effective as a student or professional, you will need a rich and specialized vocabulary. The more words you know how to use, the more precisely and persuasively you can express your thoughts.
